Sultan Ahmet Camii

Designed by Sedefkâr Mehmed Ağa, a student of the famous architect Mimar Sinan, the mosque was built by Sultan Ahmet I after the Peace of Zsitvatorok. Built directly across from the Hagia Sophia, this striking mosque is marked by the multiple domes and six minarets. It also has the largest courtyard of any mosque in Istanbul. The interior is decorated with blue Iznik tiles, giving rise to the popular name of "Blue Mosque", and bathed with light through the 260 windows.

The Iznik tiles set this mosque apart from the others. It was an amazing experience not to just appreciate the stunning architecture but being able to pray there allows you fully appreciate this historical landmark. Conveniently located across from Hagia Sophia.

One of the highlights of my trip to Istanbul. Both the exterior and interior are stunning. Careful management of the tourists means that you can pray here in peace.
