  • "Luxury hotel, great location! "

The Fairmont Hotel in Mecca was absolutely beautiful. The décor was contemporary and the hotel was clean and well maintained. While staying at the Fairmont, you truly feel that you are staying in luxury. The hotel staff ensured that they kept a great imagine by making their guests felt comfortable by always offering a smile and asking if there was anything they could do to help. They thoroughly cleaned the rooms each day and if you ever needed anything the hotel staff was a quick call away and would respond immediately to any requests. The hotel pays attention to detail including putting together the most unique flower arrangements I have ever seen on display almost daily in the lobby. The flower arrangements were so beautiful and different that they became a common photo opportunity each day.

One thing to keep in mind when staying at the hotel is that it is an extremely large hotel. This means that were long waits to use the elevators, and in some cases, you had to change elevator banks to get to certain floors. If you want to make it too all of the prayers, be sure to give yourself enough time. This means that you need to leave the hotel room at least 30 minutes before the first azan. Another thing about the hotel is that if you are unable to make it to the Masjid because of the rush, they do have a prayer room on their 2nd floor that overlooks the Masjid. This was very convenient as you could follow the prayer being done at the Masjid because of the speakers that they have set up in the prayer hall. Each hotel room also has these speakers set up as well. The only thing that I was not impressed with at the hotel was the breakfast. The choices were very limited and breakfast became redundant each day. It got to the point where I did not want to wake up to eat breakfast and would just wait to eat later.

One huge convenience factor is that the hotel is connected to a mall. You just take the elevators down and it opens to a mall full of stores that include main stream stores like MAC Cosmetics, NEXT, Motherhood, Claire’s, and so much more. There are floors after floors of shopping in the mall. If you are looking for less pricey souvenirs, take the escalators down to the ground floor of the mall. If you are looking for high end souvenirs, you can find those on the main levels of the mall. There is a nice food court in the mall as well that gives you many options including Burger King, Pizza Hut, Sbarro and many ethnic and middle eastern food choices as well. If you are looking for a snack, there are many places for these such as Haagen Dazs and Baskin Robbins. With the rush that takes place to make it to the Masjid in time, it is difficult to make time to eat or go to sit down restaurants. This is why having a mall and food court just an elevator ride down from your hotel is extremely helpful.

Fairmont hotel in the clock tower was a beautiful one. The fresh flower arrangements in the lobby are exquisite. The rooms are nicely sized esp if you get the corner rooms. The room service is expensive but their chicken Biryani was delicious (94 riyals but could easily feed two). The ground floor and the P levels has all high end shops and P3 level has various food options. These shops are expensive. However, if you go one level down to the -1 level, you find cheaper / very reasonably priced shops. You will also find zam zam water at a reasonable price on this floor (check with any book store and they will most likely have zam zam). Both on ground floor and on the -1 floor, you will find money exchange places so you don't have to go outside that tower for that.

The hotel also has a very spacious prayer room and a private clinic.

And like other hotels, each hotel room in this hotel has a separate speaker for the Azan from madjid-al-haram.

We managed to get 2 adjoining rooms, which was very useful. The staff were professional and friendly. The location is perfect for those hot Saudi afternoons. The windows could do with a bit of clean.
